Timothy Braun is a seasoned insurance executive with over 35 years of experience in underwriting, portfolio management, and leadership within the financial lines sector. Currently serving as Chief Underwriting Officer for Global Financial Lines at AXIS Capital, Timothy oversees strategic underwriting initiatives and drives profitability across diverse product portfolios.
Throughout his career at AXIS, Timothy has held pivotal roles, including Executive Vice President for Financial Institutions, where he built a multi-line proprietary product portfolio and scaled operations to five offices with 22 employees. Under his leadership, the portfolio achieved an exceptional combined loss and expense ratio of approximately 87%, generating over $2.45 billion in written premium during his tenure.
Before AXIS, Timothy was instrumental in founding and architecting the Financial Institutions Division at Kemper, where he developed innovative underwriting strategies and helped guide the successful sale of renewal rights to AXIS. His earlier experience includes leadership roles at Aon, Crystal & Company, and Chubb, where he managed national books of business and specialized in professional liability coverage for Fortune 500 and middle-market clients.
Timothy holds an MBA in Finance from Hofstra University and a BA in Economics from Hamilton College. He is an active contributor to industry thought leadership, having spoken at numerous Professional Liability Underwriting Society (PLUS) conferences on topics such as D&O exposures and financial institution underwriting trends. Additionally, he serves as an Advisory Board Member for Hofstra University’s Finance Department. Where he was an adjunct Finance Professor for 10 years.
